The
Floyd County Historical Society's mission is to preserve Floyd
County history, serve as a custodian of historical gifts, and
provide educational outreach. The museum encourages interest
in history of Floyd County through sharing a collection of
significant historic materials. Exhibits appeal to all ages
including teens, children, and seniors.
The
building in which the Historical Society is located is the
Ridgemont, originally built by Lather Hylton as a hospital
for Dr. Martin L. Dalton. Opening in 1914, Dr. Dalton practiced
there until about 1923. On the main floor were an operating
room with a cement floor, examining room with an x-ray machine,
and a waiting room. Patient rooms accommodating up to 10 patients
were located upstairs.
