Museum. One of the oldest churches in the city, Grace
Episcopal is closely intertwined with the early history
of Radford. Tracing its prominent families, local historian
and geneaologist Joanne Moche, unearths many interesting
details of Radford's past.

An Evening at La Riviere. Glencoe
Museum. On the banks of the New River towers La Riviere,
one of Radford's most intriguing mansions. Now, for the first time
in decades, the Radford Heritage Foundation and owner A.C. Wilson
will open this unique piece of architectural eccentricity for one
evening only before it undergoes restoration. Tickets are $75
per person. All proceeds will exclusively benefit the various projects
of the Radford Heritage Foundation.

Heirloom
Plant Sale: Historic Smithfield Plantation. Learn
about colonial plant materials that were indigenous to the area,
and purchase heirloom plants for your own garden. Plants supplied
by Crows Nest Greenhouses, owner Jay Smith, and the Smithfield
gardens. Knowledgeable volunteers from the Smithfield garden will
be on hand for assistance
and to answer questions. The house will be open for tours at regular
admission prices.

Lecture
Series. Wall Farm Lecture and Tour. Blacksburg
Museum and Historic
Smithfield Plantation. The Wall family will speak about
the Wall Farm, located in Price's Fork, and part of Michael
Price's origina land. The Wall family has owned this farm since
the 1830s. The tour will feature a structure from the 1790s
and the Price/Wall cemetery on the property. Lecture and tour
at 2239 Merrimac Road in Blacksburg.

Mining Heritage Association.
A mini-Coal Miners Day, this event will feature demonstrations,
exibits, music, food, artifacts, and the opportunities
to speak with retired coal miners and their families. Beside

Museum. At this double lecture, Dr. Cliff Boyd and
Hanns-Peter Nagel, director of the Radford Heritage Foundation,
will present their findings/products funded by a cost-share grant

of our natural resources. On the grounds of the Museum
will be a Farmer's Market featuring local organic and
sustainable farmers who will offer their home-grown produce.

Juneteenth Commemoration - The Untold Story: Smithfield
Honors its Black History: Historic
Smithfield Plantation. Join us for an evening
of stories and spirituals to uplift and inspire on the lawn
of Historic Smithfield Plantation. In partnership with Asbury
United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s African Methodist
Episcopal Church, and First Baptist Church of Blacksburg,
Historic Smithfield Plantation will host a commemorative
event on “Juneteenth” (June 19th) to honor the
lives of the African American slaves who lived and worked
at Smithfield. This program is the recipient of a grant from
the Community Foundation of the New River Valley.

House Lecture and Tour. Blacksburg
Museum and Historic
Smithfield Plantation. David and Lindsay West will
share their research on their home, the Keister-West
House, located on Giles Road, which dates to the 1830’s.
The property is a small part of the Keister Farm, and
the tour will include the house, grounds, and a section
of Strouble’s Creek that runs behind the house.

brief tour, slide show, and lecture on Newport, Virginia.
Doug has been collecting photographs and stories about

for many years, and offers a delightful “step
back in time” in this small community. Guests
will also see models of several buildings that were
destroyed by fire. Lecture and tour at Newport's Town
Green, located next to the Methodist Church at 311
Bluegrass Trail (Route 42).
